Established in 1978, Abitare represents a highly exclusive, private gated enclave situated in the historic core of Southwest Coconut Grove. This low-density sanctuary comprises only 21 multi-level, rustic contemporary townhouses meticulously integrated into a lush coastal hardwood hammock directly bordering Biscayne Bay and the protected canopy of The Barnacle Historic State Park.
Miami Landscape Lighting, Inc. was approached by the Abitare homeowners association to provide a full LED landscape lighting design and installation throughout the landscape. We were delighted to illuminate such a unique area of Coconut Grove.
As you enter the community we strategically placed up-lights to highlight the lush hardwood hammock. We staggered the brass LED spot lights to create depth and visual interest for residents and guests as they walk or drive into the community before reaching the guard gate. Moon-down lighting attached to the tall trees provides light to the road. Shadows from the leaves and branches create shadowing.
After you cross the guard gate more staggered up-lighting creates a magical glow in the native landscape. Recessed-well lights line the road to create safety and beauty. After a short drive you reach a 100+ year old banyan tree that divides the road. This 75-foot-tall giant is lit with spot lights, canopy lights attached to the branches to illuminate their vast spread, and down-moon lights to illuminate the road.
Continuing down the road we illuminated residents’ front yard gardens with brass LED flood lights. Down-moon lights illuminate the entire road until you reach the end of the community. At the end of the community you reach the 200-foot long oceanfront dock. We placed brass LED path lights before you enter the dock area. LED puck lights attached to the dock pilings provide a glow onto the dock.
